Here at Husky Property Maintenance, we want to help you make your property and yard look their very best. To do this, we offer expert landscape design services that will take your existing yard to the next level. If you are looking for ways to improve your landscape, here are three tips to help you get started.
- Use a Mixture of Plant Types- One mistake we see a lot in beginner landscape design is only using a few types of flowers, grasses, and other plants. By this, we mean that many people will select plants that differ in color, but that have the same general height, shape, and texture. Choosing a wider variety of plants and plant types will give your landscape more visual interest, so we encourage you to choose a mix of shrubs, trees, grasses, and of course, flowers.
- Plant in Large Groupings- Another thing you can do to elevate your landscape design is to plant in larger groupings—in other words, don’t just plant one or two of a single plant variety, but plant many of them together in a large group, and repeat the planting multiple times throughout the landscape. Having a wide variety of different plant species with just one or two plants from each will make your landscape look chaotic and disorderly, while sticking to a handful of plants in large, deliberate groupings will create a more balanced and elegant look.
- Use Groundcovers- A third way you can improve your landscape design is to plant groundcovers around your plantings. The term groundcover refers to a plant that grows low to the ground and spreads across a large area, rather than growing tall. Using these plants helps tie the whole landscape together, and it also helps the other plants in the group hold onto their water the same way that mulch does.
