It is not uncommon for a homeowner to get a bit overwhelmed when tackling landscape construction. Doing a backyard makeover is every bit as involved as doing renovations inside your home, and you know you wouldn’t do that without a well-organized plan in place. It stands to reason, therefore, that you should also have a plan in place to keep your landscape construction project on track.
There is nothing wrong with figuring in some flexibility. Landscaping is just as much of an art form as it is a science. If you start in one place without planning for the entire space, you could end up running out of room before getting all the functionality you hoped for. Moreover, you don’t want to be having to re-do an area in order to finish the whole project (don’t put the cart before the horse). This is an area where Husky Property Maintenance can be of great value to your project. We understand that your budget may not allow for the full extent of your wishes. We pride ourselves with planning out your project in a step-by-step process, so as not to do the same thing twice. Husky Property will help you with options for where your resources are best spent. If your whole plan is to be spread out over an extended period of time, we will consult with you as to an order of operations that will maximize your investment on a timely basis.
Start your project with a pad of paper and a measuring device. Carefully measure every area of your project space and write it down, so you can recreate a scaled design on paper. From here, you can add features until you become happy with the results on your replication. Be sure to account for any utilities you may need, such as electricity for lighting and a water supply for water features and for watering your landscaping. As part of your planning, do the research needed to choose your plants, flowers, trees and shrubs so they are located where they will thrive and grow well.
The next step is outlining the order of events. For example, as noted previously, if you will require utilities, then getting those that are to be underground should be done before putting down natural stone patios and walkways. You don’t want to have to dig them up later.
If your idea of planning landscape construction is picking a vacation spot while the contractor executes your plans, that’s as good a plan as any, and one that we’d be happy to help you with at Husky Property Maintenance. You can trust us to give you the landscape of your dreams as we have done for homeowners in the Barrie and Central Ontario area since 1992. We guarantee your investment will grow!
